Potty Training Update part 2

I haven't updated on Andrew's potty training in a while, so I thought I'd give a quick update.

After finally pooping on the potty, Andrew was still hit or miss on going number 2 for a while. He would go on the little potty when he felt like it. Other times, he would hold it and refuse until he finally couldn't anymore and then would end up pooping on the stairs, in a bedroom, or on the floor somewhere else. It was frustrating, but I had to remind myself that Lillian took an extra couple of months to train on number 2's after she was training with her number 1's and I started her at 2 years and 9 months and Andrew started a little before 2 years and 6 months.

Well, after going to the kid's preschool open house a couple of weeks ago and telling his teacher that he was trained except for number 2's on and off. He decided to come home and go on the potty and ever since then, he has done so!

I also repainted our downstairs half-bathroom last week and when he got home that day, he went in saying he needed to go potty and ended up pooping on the big potty for the first time that day.

So not only are we trained at 2 years and 7 months, I also put away the little potty! Yay! What a great feeling to have that done! Now we just need to work on stopping the nighttime pull-ups, but I'm still happy with that. One pull-up a day for each kid is definitely better than lots of diapers!

Potty Training Update

I haven't given much of an update on here since I announced our beginning of potty training Andrew a couple of weeks back. So I thought I'd fill in how he is doing up until now.

We went backwards the weekend after we started. We spent so much time stopping to try and get him to go potty on the way to my grandparent's house in Louisiana, it took us way too long to get there, plus most of the time, he would just sit on the potty and nothing would happen. He only went once. I decided to just use diapers the rest of the weekend so we could visit with the family better. I still asked him about going, but didn't push it too much and on the way home, we didn't even bother with it.

I started fresh this past Monday on the training. Diapers are no longer a part of the Koenning household wardrobe! Hooray! Andrew did super! He acted like we had been doing it all weekend. He peed like a pro in the potty, but still pooped on the floor! Yuck! This didn't disgust me as much though since I went through this same thing with Lillian. I think it took her a month to finally go #2 in the potty. She refused.

Tuesday, I decided to try him with wearing underpants since he was doing so well just going naked-bottomed. He did pretty good. His major problem was that he would always pee a splash on his undies and then realize it and then tell me he needed to go potty and then would go. I need to get better about taking him in a certain time frame of drinking liquids.

Wednesday, I braved taking him to the gym. I was so proud that he didn't pee in his pants there as well as Friday or Saturday there. He came home and went pee-pee then. I'm still wondering about longer trips how he'll do, but we are making some great baby steps to being there. I know kids still have accidents sometimes.

Tonight was the biggest feat of all. I was cleaning up dinner when he came and said "I poop." This made me nervous since he had also pooped on the floor yesterday. I said, "on the potty?" And he said "Yeah!" I was shocked since it hadn't happened before and I figured I would have to catch him going and get him to sit to make it happen, but no! It happened all on his own. We celebrated and went and had frozen yogurt.

Then when we got back, I was putting the kids in the tub and the water was going and he said, "I pee pee." I scooped him out and put him on my toilet in the bathroom and he went there! His first time on the big toilet! 2 big steps in one night! After bath he also went #2 two more times on his little potty!

Yay for Andrew! That is our update for now. I'm very proud of his success. My main goal now is to get him to wear his undies more and tell me when he needs to go. I'm also pleased he'll be ready to potty at preschool next month! Now to pack up my last pack of diapers and put them away until our next baby's a size 5! :)

Here I Go Again

This is definitely my least favorite parenting job thusfar, Potty Training! Yuck!

Cleaning up pee-pee slashes from the potty, poopy underwear, and all the stress of watching and making sure they go and asking 10 million times a day if they need to.

Andrew is finally at that point. He has seemed ready for a while, but very unwilling. I was going to start in August....which is next week, but the oportunity arose when he refused to let me put on his diaper the other day, so I just left it off and we started this task. Tuesday night, I had him sit while watching tv on his potty seat and he finally went an hour or so later. So yesterday, we started going bare-bottomed and he went in the afternoon after I sat with him like the night before and then he started going on his own when he needed to by the evening. Today he has done really well...besides pooping, he has been going to the potty on his own all afternoon.

Now I've started with the underwear to see if he will tell me and take them off to go. We will see! Oh the fun! Not! But oh, how nice it will be to not change anymore diapers for a while though!!!

She's Finally Ready!

We had a little celebration at my house this evening. Lillian peed in the potty for the first time!!! Before, she wouldn't even sit on it for a minute, but today I've had her sit on it a lot and after all afternoon and nothing, we ate dinner and then she said, "Potty." And ran to the playroom where her little potty was and sat on it and peed! I was jumping up and down and cheering! It is so funny how you'd never thought you'd be so excited about pee! She was happy too and we went straight afterwards to Walmart and picked out some pretty Dora and Princess panties. By no means is she anywhere near trained, but I'm so happy that she is finally showing interest, so we are on our way to only diapers for Andrew! What a relief! We also bought some celebration cupcakes at Walmart. Yay for my big girl!
